INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING
SUBURBAN CONFERENCE
Valaparaiso Regional Summary
STROHL Leads Suburban Contingency into Semi-State
Barton, Vauter gain Semi-State berths, Kraushaar, Nantais named alternates
Boone Grove sophomore Lynn Strohl fired a 254 final qualifying game to jump
from 12th position into fourth, the final stepladder position available. Strohl took
advantage by defeating Munster's Ryan Slosser in the first match, and then used
a few well timed breaks to dispose of Hammond Clark's Derrick Bohn, setting up
a title match with Bishop Noll's senior star Sammy Krucek. Krucek proved to be
too tough as he fashioned a sterling 254 game to defeat Strohl, claiming the
regional crown. Krucek led qualifying with 756.
Strohl's regional runner-up finish is believed to be the best individual performance
of a Suburban conference bowler in its history. In all, twelve bowlers advanced to
semi-state action. Boone Grove's Jimmy Kraushaar fired 581 to finish 13th and
serve as the first alternate. Other Suburban boys participants were Kevin Zolper
(Boone Grove 573 16th), Derek Myers (Lowell 562 18th), Kyler Holbrook
(Rensselaer 560 20th), Josh Manis (Lowell 544 21st), and Stephan Grabek (Boone
Grove 485 31st).
On the girls side, Rensselaer's Allsion Barton fired 558 to claim 7th overall assuring her position in next weeks Merrillville
semi-state. Nicole Vauter, on the strength of the girls division's highest game, a super 263, claimed 8th place with a 556 total,
also advancing to semi-state action.
Other suburban girls participating in regional action included Sydney Nantais (Lowell 533 14th, second alternate), Alicia Smith
(Lowell 521 18th), Jessica Azbill (North Newton 467 24th), and Bridget Rogers (Hanover Central 423 27th).
In the team event, Lowell boys started strong with 960, however, as the lanes transitioned, scoring became more difficult for the
Red Devils as they finished in 7th place while the Hebron boys settled for the 8th position. The Lowell girls squad finished sixth,
and were in contention for the fourth semi-state qualifying position late into the baker round. Hanover Central finished in the
seventh position.
Strohl, Barton, and Vauter will compete at Stardust II in Merrillville on Saturday February 18th beginning at / around 1:30 pm.
Good Luck !!!
