INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING
SUBURBAN CONFERENCE
SECTIONAL RESULTS
February 1, 2008 played out as expected during the team
competition, and provided some excitement and suspense during
the individual singles segment.

Unlike 2007, the team competition was controlled by the conference
champions.  The Boone Grove Boys squad proved that 2007 was not
the norm and came out firing on all cylinders, taking an early lead,
and never relinquishing it.  Boone's ace Lynn Strohl dominated early
going with a statement making 244.  Sophomore Jimmy Kraushaar
led the 2nd game attack with a 225.  Strohl's 412 and Kraushaar's
398 were bested only by KV's Derek Smenyak's 438 set during
qualifying.   Boone then defeated the well coached and
fundamentally solid River Forest Ingot squad 376 - 344 in the title
match.  Shawn Dailey's 397 led the ingot attack.

Hanover Central dominated the girls competition from the start
despite not having the services of their top bowler Alyssa Speichert.
The wildcats defeated the Lady Red Devils from Lowell in the
championship match.  Lowell's Sydney Nantais fired a 401 set to
lead the devils into the regionals.

Kraushaar rolls 300 during singles qualifying
The boys individual qualifying was highlighted by Jimmy Kraushaar's,
the 2007 sectional champion, first career 300 game.  Kraushaar
struggled early on, posting a 154 during game 1, but an improved
attitude allowed the sophomore to rebound with 201, and then 300,
which vaulted him from 18th into the top qualifying position for the
second consecutive year.   River Forest's Johnnie Latta qualified in
2nd position with a solid 640 series.  Latta then defeated KV's Casey
Grover in the semi-finals before over-coming a sizable deficit in the
championship match to defeat Kraushaar 202-189 and capture the
individual title.  Boone Grove freshman Lane Strohl qualified in the
third position with a 607 but fell in the first stepladder match to Grover.
Strohl's older and "more famous" brother Lynn - a 2007 1st Team All
Stater and the region's top 2007 individual performer (State Finals 4th
Place Finish) fired a closing 206 to grab one of the final regional
births with his 581 to maintain his quest to become N'west Indiana's
first individual state champ.  Other regional qualifiers included River
Forest's Jason Lopez, Hebron's Matt Gorby, Lowell's Josh Manis, and
 Hanover Central's Josh Perez.

Kankakee Valley's freshman phenom Carly Grover dominated the
girls qualifying with her 547 set.  She then defeated Lowell's Carol
Zarych in the championship match 226 - 149.  Zarych's march to the
title tilt began with a victory over Hebron's Emily Sjoerdszma, then
second seeded Alycia Azbill (North Newton).  Other regional finalists
included Hebron's Jamie Sherman and Joan Fouse, Hanover
Central's Libby Smit, and River Forest's Jessica Bandy.

Boone's John Sawa held off teammates Josh Hill and Geoff Brown to
capture the Junior Varsity championship.
